"Jay Cola-Cloa" was created at
Noreen Young's Puppet Making Course!

We all Started with a huge pile of plasticine to shape our heads with.

Noreen guided us through some great tips on facial features - what works well for expression, etc.

Silicone-based Plaster was used with the
plasticine sculpt for the latex cast.

Here's the unpainted, hairless head along with
the arms and hands, made by hand as well.

Here's the partially painted head with the finished
arms and unclothed foam body.

Here's Myself torturing poor Noreen with 'Jay'. Hair, clothes and more importantly, rods for arm movement are added.

The fine art of puppet manipulation
is instructed by Puppet Master Bob Stutt

These simple work puppets are minimal in design and are used to develop skills such as balance, eye line levels, height levels, arm angles, physical and emotional expressions.
None of it was as easy as I had anticipated!
'Lip-synching' is a crucial skill to master. To some it comes naturally while to others practice can be very helpful. Here is Bob Stutt and an old friend of his to give some tips!

Here is another star of our class - Oscar the baby sparrow. Oscar was saved by a kind woman and fellow puppet manipulation pupil who I'll name once/if I get her permission!

These are called Knuckle-Boppers. Mary O'Riley and I made our own during the last day of the puppet making course. Mine is the blue saxophonist. We're rehearsing for the big Cabaret Show for the Puppets Up! Puppet Festival.
